Physiotherapy of painful conditions after gynecological and urological operations

Are you after gynecological, abdominal or plastic surgery in the area of external or internal female organs?

These interventions can often be followed by:

pain in the lower back, lower abdomen or hip joints

irregular or painful menstruation

discomfort or pain during sexual intercourse

Sometimes they are of a long and long-standing character.

But why let your life be unpleasant, when even such a problem is often solved by physiotherapy!

Why does a painful condition arise after surgery?

Operative intervention in the body (e.g. hysterectomy, caesarean section, endometriosis surgery, plastic surgery in the urinary tract, etc.) often leads to a change in the tension (often an increase) of soft tissues in the area of the abdominal wall, back, pelvic floor and its surroundings.

With the tension of soft tissues is associated with the tension of the ligaments and the hanging apparatus of the internal organs, since even these have their mobility, that is, mobility.

The tension of the above-mentioned muscles, ligaments and hinges affects the mobility of the joints – i.e. thoracic, lumbar spine, SI joints and hip joints, where subsequent blockages often occur.

How can these painful conditions be addressed?

By combining fascial, visceral, internal techniques, exercise and other physiotherapy techniques, it is possible to eliminate or alleviate these problems. Even with these problems, we can help you.

Our physiotherapists have highly qualified education in fascia therapy, visceral manipulation, mobilization techniques of joints and spine.

Deep pelvic pain, pain in the area of the coccyx and pelvic floor, pain during sexual intercourse.

Who is affected?
Generally speaking, pain in the pelvic and pelvic floor can affect both men and women, children are no exception.

When do we often experience pelvic floor pain?
Soreness in the pelvic and pelvic floor area is the result of overloading with unbalanced involvement of muscles in the area of the abdominal wall, back and hip joints. Pain often occurs even when we are exposed to excessive stress, whether at work, at school (especially in children of pubertal age) or in family life.

Pain as a result of injury?
Yes, many of us have already experienced the unpleasant fact of falling on our butts and the subsequent inability to sit down or lie down comfortably for several days or weeks.

When is pain needed to be addressed with specific physiotherapy?
In the above mentioned cases, these are usually functional disorders in the form of increased muscle tension, which usually go away on their own. Sometimes you need to relax your muscles with methods to reduce local tension, either by yourself or with your physiotherapist.

But what if the pain does not go away? What if it prevents us from doing normal activities such as prolonged sitting, sports, sexual intercourse, etc.?

Possible causes of prolonged pain in the pelvic and pelvic floor area:

Scar. Scars after operations in the area of the small pelvis, after an incision or birth injury, or after an injury in the pelvic floor area, can be a source of rather unpleasant pulling to burning and sharp pains. They often annoy during sexual intercourse, but they can also be naughty when defecating. Typical for them is a certain dependence on the position, when changing the position of the pelvis, the pains subside slightly.

Chronic inflammation. Acute gynecological inflammation, inflammation of the prostate or bladder is usually well recognized by everyone. Occasionally, however, the inflammation goes into a chronic phase or „mere dysmicrobia“ appears, i.e. a disorder of the natural environment with similar symptoms (burning, itching, discharge) without significant laboratory findings. Rarely, common infections also involve less detectable and otherwise treatable inflammation, such as chlamydia.Such inflammatory changes are a frequent source of adhesions in the pelvic and abdominal cavities at the microscopic level and can lead to nonspecific pain in the lower abdomen, pain during intercourse, with a larger filling of the bladder or intestine.

Endometriosis. This is a condition in which uterine cells travel outside the uterus and settle in the pelvic and abdominal cavity (for example, in the area of the ovaries, fallopian tubes, on the intestines). As part of the normal menstrual cycle, the lining multiplies and can slightly press on the organs. In the period of menstruation, this lining is loosened and there is a very small, but repeated bleeding directly into the abdominal cavity. All this leads to pain in the lower abdomen, the formation of adhesions and often also to bleeding outside the normal menstrual cycle.

Nerve irritation. From the spine towards the pelvis and lower limbs, a large number of nerves protrude. If the nerve is oppressed in its course (for example, by a bulging disc or locally at the point of passage through individual muscles and tendons), it can be irritated and develop burning pains, even in the pelvis, coccyx and genital area.

Symphyseolysis. This is a unique spacing of the bones of the pubic clasp. It appears most often in pregnancy and is characterized by pronounced soreness in the area of the pubic buckle, going even to the inner sides of the thighs.

Dealing with pain in the pelvic and pelvic floor area from the point of view of a physiotherapist:

First of all, it should be mentioned that all of the above conditions should first be examined by a specialist doctor who will appoint proper treatment!!!

In the case of simple high tension in the pelvic floor area, the therapist relaxes the muscles, most often using postisometric relaxation or pressure massage, using so-called external techniques. If the muscles are not sufficiently relaxed, it is possible to proceed to direct, i.e. internal treatment through the vagina or rectum.

In the case of scars or adhesions, a gentle stretching of the adhesions and relaxation of the organs (their stretching) is added to the relaxation of the muscle. The physiotherapist is not able to disrupt the adhesion, but he is able to stretch it and improve the sliding of individual tissues relative to each other and thus relieve the patient. This therapy needs to be repeated regularly, just as we need to stretch regularly so as not to completely stiffen. For this reason, the patient learns to perform the individual techniques himself. If the source of adhesions is chronic vaginal inflammation, it is recommended to include enzyme therapy, rinse salts or cleansing vaginal globules and local use of probiotics.

Irritation of nerves in the spine can in most cases be influenced by conservative, i.e. non-surgical procedures, which also include physiotherapy. Pinching lower in the pelvis can also be partially solved by relaxing the muscles and soft tissues through which the nerve passes. In difficult cases, therapy is supplemented with a targeted injection of a given nerve at a specialized medical workplace.

All manual therapy is supplemented with correction of posture and movement habits in standing, sitting, during sports. As part of complex therapy, we try to adjust the overall muscle imbalance so that the load on the musculoskeletal system is even.

And what if physiotherapy and movement therapy do not help enough?

Last but not least, the pelvic and pelvic floor area is influenced by emotions. If we are afraid or feel uncomfortable, we often contract the pelvic floor muscles and „hide the tailbone“, just as we can see, for example, in dogs.

We often encounter the fact that all our efforts to allow an area are without a significant effect, because the individual solves some other problems, whether work or family. In this case, it is advisable to combine movement therapy with targeted relaxation or psychotherapy.

Pelvic floor, myths about exercise and how are you doing?

Test your pelvic floor yourself

The easiest way to see if everything is working as it should is to insert a finger into your vagina and try to contract muscle. You should be able to pull the muscles back (hug) and at the same time suck the finger upwards (perform a lift).

The fact that there is no lift is not at all an isolated phenomenon, but it should be a warning light for you that you need to work on your pelvic floor.

Of course, this examination is only indicative, if you have difficulties, we always recommend a visit to a specialist such as a physiotherapist specializing in the treatment of the pelvic floor or urogynecologist. They will tell you with certainty how you are doing and set up a therapeutic rehabilitation plan tailored to your needs.

Get to know your pelvic floor

Before you start exercising, you need to realize what the pelvic floor looks like, where you have it, whether you perceive it at all. A large number of women do not perceive their pelvic floor, the causes are many, often they are also various psychic superstructures, which we often do not even realize ourselves (sometimes we prefer not even to want to). The pelvic floor is very closely related to emotions. It certainly does not add much to us that the pelvic floor muscles are hidden and we do not see them as easily as, for example, the muscles of the arm.

Feel the tailbone with the finger of one hand and the pubic bone with the finger of the other hand, you will get two points between which the pelvic floor muscles stretch. Close your eyes and imagine them. Place your palm between the above points (in the crotch) and breathe deeply into the lower abdomen. With an inhalation, you should feel that your muscles will push slightly into your palm downwards. This is muscle relaxation.

It is possible that you will not be able to do it much at first and the pelvic floor will be far away. Don’t worry about it and take your time. Try it several times a day in private, until you get better at it and manage to realize the muscles even without controlling your hands, then practice this during the day unlimitedly.

How not to exercise the pelvic floor?

A lot is written about pelvic floor exercise, less talked about, but what is missing the most is practical exercise. Many women have no idea how to activate the pelvic floor or are not quite sure if they are doing it right. Exercise booklets usually don’t give us the right information. Various exercises with lifting the pelvis and squeezing the overball are widespread. In this way, you are more likely to fix a completely false mechanism of contraction, which has nothing to do with the work of your own pelvic floor.

Another problem is intermittent urination. With this exercise, we go against the micturition reflex and there is a risk that the woman will develop another type of incontinence, the so-called urgent, when we feel a sudden urge to urinate. If you run to the toilet and start urinating, you may find that the way you actually wanted dramatically may not correspond to the actual filling of your bladder at all.

Strengthening muscles

We need to strengthen the muscles both in isolation and within a complex muscle connection, which in itself will help to engage the pelvic floor muscles. As mentioned above, the function of the pelvic floor is related to the function of the diaphragm, but also to the function of the hip joints, feet. Through them, we can activate the pelvic floor, but also discard it. Examples of such exercises are given below.

For targeted local involvement of the pelvic muscles, we can best use trainers that are introduced into the vagina. If you properly activate the pelvic floor muscles, the rod at the end of the trainer, serving as your feedback on whether you are exercising correctly, will move downwards. If you relax the muscles, the stick should go up.

Another option is exercise with biofeedback. This device records your muscle activity and uses it to give light or sound signals as you activate or relax your muscles. Thus, the exercise becomes motivational and fun. You have clear values about the time and strength of contraction. It is also possible to connect to a PC, where you can watch various graphs and statistics of how you are improving.

The rehearsed activity of these muscles is best incorporated into normal daily activities.

What if exercise does not help?

Conservative treatment (rehabilitation, exercise, aids) is not all-saving and has its limits. But we should definitely almost always start and end with it. It often happens that patients are operated on directly, e.g. for reasons of prolapse or urinary incontinence, without an attempt at a conservative solution, or at least being aware that such possibilities exist at all. If the difficulties are so great that surgery is necessary, even before it is advisable to exercise so that the muscles have the best possible condition and the procedure then has the best result. But for the effect to be maximum, it is not possible to rely only on the operation. Very often it happens that the trouble returns after some time. Even after surgery, it is advisable to start exercising and keep your muscles in shape.

The pelvic floor, even if it is not visible, do not forget about it!

Do you suffer from pain in the lower back, cross-hip joints, do you have pain during sexual intercourse, leakage of urine or difficulty defecating? If so, it is quite likely that it is all due to the malfunction of the pelvic floor muscles.

What is the pelvic floor?

Anatomically, the pelvic floor is formed by a three-layer group of muscles, going from the coccyx to the pubic bone. We can think of it as a bowl or hammock suspended in our pan. These muscles provide us with the correct position of the organs (they hold them so that they do not sink downwards), help to retain urine and stool.

However, the pelvic floor also has a major impact on the posture of our body, more precisely on strengthening the center of the body. Let’s imagine the position of the pelvic floor and diaphragm. These muscles are stored horizontally above each other and I am constantly communicating with each other. We take a breath through the diaphragm, which pushes down against the pelvic floor. It should be able to withstand the pressure and so the diaphragm can act as a piston, which pressurizes a little, thus strengthening the center of the body. This strengthening is very important for straightening the spine and stabilizing the pelvis and hip joints.

When the pelvic floor is not working as it should…

The pelvic floor should be able to withstand great pressures, e.g. when we cough, jump or lift heavy loads, this function requires its activation. If it is insufficient, there may be leakage of urine called stress urinary incontinence.

On the contrary, with a breath into the lower abdomen, the diaphragm presses into the pelvic floor downwards, at this time the pelvic floor should be able to relax, on the contrary, which is very important. The ability to relax is very often impaired in women and can cause problems often greater than the weakening of the muscles itself (e.g. blockages of the lumbar spine, transferred pain in the hips, buttocks, discomfort during sexual intercourse and others). Very often, however, dysfunction occurs in both of these directions – that is, reduced muscle strength and limited ability to relax.

It often happens that women strengthen and strengthen, but forget about practicing relaxation, which then over time reduces their ability to activate the muscles and muscle coordination occurs.

Who are the most common problems?

Problems with the pelvic floor begin most often during pregnancy and after childbirth. The risk factor is a large and heavy baby, as well as complicated births with postpartum injury, where there may be serious conditions such as uterine or rectal prolapse and related incontinence not only of urine, but also of stool.

Another risk group are women in menopause, in these women the pelvic floor is usually already partially weakened after previous pregnancies and births. In addition, hormonal changes, often increasing weight, play a role here.

In general, problems with urinary incontinence usually worsen with increased demands on the pelvic floor, such as colds, chronic cough or overweight. After a stress episode (cold and cough) everything is normal again, but beware, these episodes with leakage of urine should be a warning signal for us that something is not quite right and the pelvic floor needs to be worked on!

Another separate chapter could be athletes in whom no one would assume dysfunction of these muscles, but the opposite is true. Pelvic floor problems are very common in runners, volleyball players and gymnasts. These athletes usually have difficulty relaxing and becoming aware of the pelvic floor.

Psychological consequences of pelvic floor disorders

At first glance, it would seem that these difficulties are purely physical in nature, but the opposite is true. For women who are plagued by urinary incontinence, for example, this disorder goes far beyond the physical framework and greatly affects the psyche. These women usually do not talk about their problem, they get into social isolation. They often begin to develop psychological and psychosomatic problems such as depression, anxiety and other non-specific disorders, which are very difficult for both health professionals and patients themselves to grasp and treat.

Pelvic floor disorders are successfully treated.

You can read more about the pelvic floor here.

Treatment of headaches

Who wouldn’t want to get rid of headaches? Perhaps only the one who has never experienced the pain…
And there are not many such people nowadays. Who suffers from such a headache, which completely puts a person out of normal operation for several days, may have already gone to the doctor with his problems and consulted about a possible treatment. But most people patiently endure the headache and take it as something that „is normal“ because „everyone has it“.

It is equally common to take analgesics, for example, ibuprofen or paracetamol.
Drug therapy can in many cases be a very useful treatment that suppresses the worst symptoms, or in some cases delays the development of acute problems.
However, we often encounter overuse of drugs without addressing the causes that cause headaches.
The pain then recurs and becomes a normal part of a person’s life, as well as addiction to drugs and their side effects.

In some cases, however, getting rid of headaches is not as difficult as it may seem.

In order to better orient yourself in this issue, let’s take a look at how the two most common types of headaches differ from each other. These are true migraine and tension headache.
How can we distinguish them from each other?

Migraine

Migraine headache affects up to 1/6 of the entire population. It is manifested by intense throbbing pain, as a rule, of one half of the head and a number of associated symptoms (nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to light, odors and sounds). It usually worsens with physical activity.
Up to a third of people perceive the so-called aura before the onset of difficulties – for example, various visual disorders, tingling of hands, or speech disorders. During the period of „aura“, there is a decrease in blood supply to some parts of the brain.
Fierce, throbbing pain is then associated with the expansion of blood vessels and the appearance of swelling, which is the cause of several more hours or days of dull headache.
Thus, it would seem that only bad blood vessels are to blame for migraine, which should be treated. That is not the case. The main responsibility lies with the nerves that control the extensibility of blood vessels. No one knows exactly how migraine arises, but at the moment the most accepted opinion is that it is a disorder of processing sensations. When migraine sufferers are exposed to certain stimuli, their brains go into an excited state and begin to produce large amounts of various hormones (e.g. serotonin).

Outside of attacks, migraine sufferers tend to have lower levels of serotonin in the brain. Before migraine, however, a large amount of serotonin is released from platelets in a short time. The latter will cause the contraction of blood vessels and the symptoms of an „aura“. However, a large amount of serotonin released is quickly broken down and stops working. The vessels expand again and there is a phase of persistent headache.

The main stimuli provoking problems include stress, irregular eating, hormonal changes and lack of sleep…
Interestingly, compared to healthy individuals, migraine sufferers have tighter neck and trapezius muscles (with reflexively contracted points in the muscles) and have limited mobility of the upper cervical spine into rotation.

Treatment: We will not describe here the classic treatment that your doctor will advise you (triptans, tricyclic antidepressants, etc.).

So how to treat?
For example, sleep long enough in a dark room.
During uninterrupted restful sleep without contact with artificial light, the hormone melatonin is released, which has the ability to adjust the biological daily rhythms of a person. Biological rhythms also govern the secretion of various hormones. In other words, if we want our body to produce adequate doses of hormones in ideal amounts, we need to have functional and regular biological rhythms of our body.
Melatonin also acts on digestion and on maintaining a pleasant mood. If a person can not avoid frequent travel over long distances, it is possible (for a low price and a minimum of side effects) to take it also in the form of a nutritional supplement. The results of studies suggest that taking melatonin could reduce the intensity of pain, but the effect has not yet been definitively confirmed.

Tension headaches:

Headache is by its nature blunt, pressure, or astringent. It can appear in any place on the head, even behind the eyes. If you feel pain on both sides of your head, it’s slightly more likely that it’s not a migraine. However, even tension pain can affect only one half of the head, just as migraine can occur in some cases on both sides. Usually it is not accompanied by strong accompanying symptoms (visual disturbances, vomiting, …)

And what exactly is it, such a headache? And how is it formed?
The brain of each of us is enveloped in several layers of packaging. Headache arises when our brain decides that these shells of its are irritated and there is a risk of damaging them.
In the case of tension pain, however, there is no danger to our brain envelopes, so why the pain?
The cause is the contraction of the muscles of the skull and neck. When information flows into the brain that the muscles of the neck and head are tense, the brain then evaluates the „healthy“ impulses from the brain envelopes as pain. And why is that?
The nerve, which collects information about the tension of the muscles on the head, also collects information from the brain shells and brings it to the central brain, where it is further processed.
Information about the tension of the muscles of the head and information about the covers go through one nerve, so our brain is easily confused and evaluates the incoming message as a threat to the brain envelopes.
Therefore, we perceive that not only the muscles of the neck and head hurt us, but also the „head“ really hurts.
Our brain thinks that something bad is happening in the brain sheath and wants to alert us to it…

Uff, it’s not easy to understand at all… and how do such muscles in the neck and head get into tension?

The causes of increased tension of the neck and head muscles can be several:

1) blockade of the cervical spine, for example, due to long-term suboptimal posture – not only the cervical, but also the thoracic spine (when we bend the thoracic spine, the head and neck must compensate for this hunch so that we do not fall backwards), for example, when working at a computer
2) blockades of the ribs (there are clamped muscles on the ribs that lead up the neck to the head), the ribs can be blocked, for example, by an inappropriate stereotype of breathing
3) stress
4) gnashing of teeth, clenching of teeth (bruxism), incorrect bite (often leads to blockade of the jaw joint and unilateral increase in tension of the chewing muscles)
5) muscle imbalance in the pelvic and pelvic floor (muscle tension is transferred along the spine and along the musculo-ligamentous chains to the neck and head)
6) other problems (e.g. untreated gastroesophageal reflux with the presence of a hiatal hernia)

Hypermobility and pain in the back, hips and other parts of the musculoskeletal system

Too much flexibility is not an enviable ability, so do not develop it

We often admire the flexible bodies of snake women and gymnasts, and sometimes even great flexibility evokes a symbol of health. But sometimes the opposite is true. Overly flexible individuals are often more disadvantaged than their „stiff and shortened“ colleagues.

Hypemobility means an increased range of motion in the joints beyond the physiological limit. It is not a disease, the cause is the so-called inferiority of the ligament, i.e. the changed quality of the elasticity of the ligament. In a physiological state, sufficiently strong ligaments together with balanced muscle tension strengthen the joint and keep it in the right position, guaranteeing it proper function and stability. Conversely, the hypermobile joint, which is allowed an abnormally large range of motion, becomes unstable. Such a joint must be more helped by the surrounding muscles and their tendons (tendons). Hypermobility is further hampered by the fact that it is also associated with lower muscle tension. This further impairs the ability to stabilize the joint.Overloaded tendons soon get tired and hurt. Loose joints are in a bad position, they block very easily, and their uneven loading promotes the development of arthrosis.

We encounter more types of hypermobility:

Congenital hypermobility is usually total, affecting all or almost all joints in the body. It is often encountered in young girls, when a close connection with hormonal fluctuations is assumed. With age, this increased joint mobility can be slightly relieved. However, hypermobility is not only affected by women, it is also very common in men. Hypermobile people and people with lower muscle tension seem to be increasing. Certain civilizational influences probably contribute to this. It becomes quite a big but hidden problem.
Total hypermobility is further promoted by the use of certain drugs that reduce muscle tension (NSAIDs, hormonal contraceptives, antidepressants, muscle relaxants).

In some sports, overall hypermobility is even in demand, e.g. in ballet, dance or gymnastics, when athletes have to stretch purposefully from childhood to extreme and at the same time hypermobile individuals succeed in these sports.

Also during pregnancy, the overall laxicity of the ligaments, especially in the pelvis and hip joints, is increased through hormonal changes, we consider it physiological and advantageous for easier childbirth. However, the load in pregnancy and deepened hypermobility can lead to pain and overload of the musculoskeletal system later or even in pregnancy.

The most common form of acquired hypermobility, when only one joint is affected, is an injury (e.g. ankle sprain, shoulder dislocation, ligament rupture). There is a change in the quality of the ligament, there is a decrease in control of movement control in a given joint, thereby increasing the likelihood of recurrence of the injury. A similar effect of injuries often have repeated chiropractic manipulations with joints.

Inappropriate sports in hypermobility:

Gymnastics or ballet, where hypermobility is an advantage, is definitely not suitable. I do not recommend hypermobile yoga unless they are able to perfectly control the physiological range of motion during exercise and strengthen themselves well during exercise. For people with hypermobility, sports where uncoordinated unpredictable movements occur, such as squash, basketball or tennis, are generally not recommended.

Suitable sports for hypermobility:

Suitable sports include running, cycling, swimming, etc., as we have movement under our own control. When running, but also watch out for loose ankles and knees. Repeated load again increases the risk of greater joint wear and tendon pain. The most advantageous exercise is in the form of functional training, so it is an exercise of overall strengthening or exercise on unstable surfaces. With such an exercise, it is necessary to pay attention to the good strengthening of the trunk over and the joints of the limbs.

Static positions (long-term standing, sitting) are considered unfavorable, which soon provoke fatigue and muscle pain. A hypermobile person tends to hang in the ligaments. Therefore, when he stands longer, he hangs his leg vaults, breaks his knees backwards, hangs into the lumbar bend. After a short time, in such a position, the loins begin to hurt. On the contrary, a frequent change of position or sitting interspersed with walking has a positive effect.
If you suffer from hypermobility in the spine, you will be relieved by sleeping on your back on a harder mattress.

A vicious circle and how to get out of it

Hypermobile people often suffer from pain because the muscles try to replace the work of the ligaments and increase their tension in the form of spasms. These are painful. Thus, a hypermobile person tends to release this tension with heat and stretching. However, this again leads not only to the release of spasms, but also to an overall reduction in muscle tension.

This is followed by the body’s need to stabilize and new muscle spasms are formed again. We can get out of this vicious circle by certain regime measures that will lead to a total toning of the muscles, that is, to a slight increase in their tension. It is necessary to move a lot, often and regularly. It is even better to move or exercise in the fresh air, which again starts and refreshes the body better. It is good to take a shower or finish the bath with a cold shower. Diet also has a great influence. What foods are directly a cure or, on the contrary, a poison for hypermobility has probably not yet been explored in detail, but it can be assumed that too much sugar, flour, caffeine will bother and vice versa will benefit a varied and fresh diet.

How to know if you are hypermobile?

Perhaps those concerned will suspect this. They were always more flexible than others. At school, they were admired for putting their palms on the ground while standing, for raising their joined hands very high behind their backs, and so on. But sometimes hypermobility can be hidden behind already formed muscle spasms and shortening of some muscles. And on the contrary, such a person has the need to stretch a lot, he often goes to yoga, especially to the now popular yoga in great heat. After two days, however, he feels withdrawn again and needs to relax and stretch again. However, this method of solution is not the happiest, because it closes you in the vicious circle described above.

Did you know that painful menstruation can be solved by exercise?

Many women suffer from painful menstruation. As „your days“ approach, the body gives you clear signals. Your back, abdomen, head hurts, you feel bad, in the worst case, you writhe in convulsions for 1-2 days. Analgesics can already be taken for granted.Part of the trouble is certainly caused hormonally. However, it is little known that problems such as back, abdominal and head pain during your days are closely related to the problem hidden in the musculoskeletal system, which noticeably manifests itself only at the time of menstruation.
„These problems during menstruation are a sign that there is something wrong in the pelvis, loins, spine, even if you do not normally suffer from any problems. The function of internal organs and the musculoskeletal system is closely interrelated. At the moment when the uterus is massively perfused, useless and begins to bleed, it seems that these changes inside decompensate the problem on the surface, and the pain is reflected. If the movement problem is intentionally worked on, the problems during menstruation usually disappear completely or mainly. The results are surprisingly fast in these cases,“ says physiotherapist MGR. DAGMAR MOSTECKÁ (http://www.bebalanced.cz/).

Hormonal contraceptives do not have a „curative effect“ on pain

It is common knowledge that pain during menstruation can be alleviated by taking hormonal contraceptives. So how does it work?
„The pain often disappears or eases with the use of hormonal contraceptives. But let’s not take it as some kind of therapeutic effect of contraception. Menstruation when taking contraceptives has little to do with natural menstruation

. It is a completely different phenomenon from a hormonal point of view. There are no such changes in the pelvis, so the problems of the musculoskeletal system do not even begin to manifest themselves,“ explains the physiotherapist.

Painful menstruation can be relieved

Although there are certainly many women who suffer from a problem called painful menstruation, most women do not come primarily with this problem. Not everyone would think this can be solved…
„They come to headaches, and during the examination I learn that they also suffer more or less pain during menstruation.

Sometimes even the woman herself does not mention it, because she did not know that it would be solvable, but looking at the pelvis, I can guess that she has these problems. “

The context of infertility and painful menstruation

There is also some association between functional sterility (infertility, although a woman is medically determined to be „healthy“) and painful menstruation. Ludmila Mojžíšová became famous for this question, whose method helped many women get rid of not only painful menstruation, but above all to become pregnant.

„There is a two-way relationship between internal organs and the musculoskeletal system. So when „something is wrong“ in the position of the pelvis, lumbar spine, pelvic floor and abdominal muscle functions, pelvic organs are then not well perfused, natural peristaltic movements of the fallopian tubes, etc. And this can lead to the functional sterility just mentioned,“ explains the physiotherapist.

Back pain during menstruation

Many women suffer from painful menstruation. As your days approach, your body gives you clear signals. The back, abdomen, head hurts, there is nausea, in the worst case, for 1-2 days you writhe in convulsions. Analgesics may already be commonplace. Part of the trouble is certainly caused hormonally. However, little is known that problems such as back, abdominal and head pain during your days are closely related to the problem hidden in the musculoskeletal system, which is noticeably manifested only at the time of menstruation.

If you have these difficulties during menstruation, it is a sign that something is wrong in the area of your pelvis, loins, spine, although you do not normally suffer from these difficulties. The function of internal organs and the musculoskeletal system is closely interrelated. At the moment when the uterus is massively perfused, unnecessary and begins to bleed, these changes inside seem to decompensate the (otherwise compensated) problem on the surface and the pain resounds. If the movement problem is worked on, the problems usually disappear completely or mostly. The results are surprisingly fast in these cases. To do this, targeted work is required, which leads to the adjustment of muscle tension, primarily in the pelvic area.

Pain during menstruation will naturally knock you out of your physical activities for a day or two. Even those of you who do not suffer from any problems during menstruation, so give yourself one or two days more freely. Instead, crawl into bed with a book and let your body rest.
